When you store a high-quality movie on a cloud platform like MEGA, the file is highly encrypted. Typically, to share a movie with a friend, they would have to download the entire multi-gigabyte file before they could even start watching it.

Our player changes that completely. It acts as a real-time decryption and streaming engine, allowing you to share and watch cloud-stored movies instantly.

Here is a look at what happens behind the scenes when you share or open a cloud stream.

The entire process happens in real-time on your local machine, keeping your data secure and your playback smooth:

1.The Handshake:

When you click a shared link (or open a shared folder), the player requests the specific video file’s encrypted data blocks directly from the cloud servers.

2.On-the-Fly Decryption:

Instead of waiting for a full download, the player decrypts the incoming data stream locally in your device’s memory using the unique cryptographic key embedded in the link.

3.Smart Local Buffering:

The decrypted data is fed into a local caching pipeline. This buffers the next few minutes of the movie ahead of time to ensure that brief spikes in network latency don’t cause stuttering.

4.Cinema Playback:

The media player renders the video, audio, and subtitle tracks seamlessly. The cloud file plays exactly like a local file on your hard drive.

The biggest question most users have is: “If I share a link, is my account safe?”

Because our player is built directly on top of MEGA’s secure architecture, your privacy is protected by design:

  • No Master Password Exposure: When you share a deep link to a movie, the link only contains the cryptographic key for that specific file. It is physically impossible for anyone using that link to access your master account password or see your other files.

  • Direct Client-to-Cloud Connection: Your credentials and files never pass through our servers. The connection is strictly between your player, the cloud servers, and your friend’s player.

  • Revocable Access: If you share a folder with friends using their emails, you can remove their access at any point through your cloud dashboard, instantly cutting off their ability to stream those files.
